Ainsley

2020 EMBRACING BRAVE NTX Spring Recipient

On November 24, 2018, Ainsley was involved in a motor vehicle crash that resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury. She spent the first 30 days in ICU, and then the next 4 and a half months in the hospital and inpatient rehab facilities.

Ainsley's doctors at the hospital told us that she would remain in a vegetative state - they suggested that we place her in a nursing facility, and to begin thinking about palliative care. However, we felt that God had other plans for Ainsley.

We were fortunate to get Ainsley admitted to TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston to begin rehabilitative treatment. Her doctors there immediately saw that Ainsley was very much conscious and aware, but that her level of consciousness was being shrouded by her body's inability to move and respond to commands.

Ainsley was brought home on May 14th, 2019, nearly 6 months after her accident. Once she was home, we really began to see her make progress. Ainsley has an incredible team of therapists that come to her home and work with her multiple times a week. Through these intense therapy sessions, Ainsley has shown the ability to communicate in a number of different ways!

Ainsley is non-verbal, non-ambulatory, is fed through a g-tube, and relies on caregiver assistance 24/7.  However, through all of this, Ainsley’s personality hasn’t changed. She is sassy, opinionated, and full of love! She loves spending time with her family, especially her brother Bobby, who is her best friend. She loves petting animals, listening to music, taking relaxing walks, and hanging out with friends.

We have goals to further pursue a variety of alternative treatments for her this year, such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (we hope to get an in-home chamber for her), stem cell therapy, low level laser therapy, and others. Ainsley is a fighter -  she will never give up, so we will never give up on- 2020
